Where to go for
Laser Resurfacing in Marin County? Laser resurfacing is
done with a CO2 laser with either local anesthesia with sedation or
general anesthesia. Laser Resurfacing may be done to the entire face or
to specific areas such as the periocular region (around the eyes) or the
perioral region (around the mouth). Dr. Hand will perform 1 to 4 passes
on the areas of the face selected for resurfacing, dependant on what is
needed to accomplish correction.
The laser used in laser resurfacing in our Marin County office generates
an intense beam of light that brings energy to a specific site, through
a small hand piece connected to the laser. The laser light is absorbed
by oxyhemoglobin (bright red blood cells carrying oxygen) and melanin/pigment
(black or brown pigment found in the skin) causing decomposition or
destruction by heat of unwanted cells while leaving the healthy cells
intact. Patients typically feel a slight stinging sensation during the
treatment followed by some redness that usually goes away in 2-4 hours.
